EU-UNAWE PROJECTS 2012

National Science Week

3 January 2012

South Africa invited EU-UNAWE Italy to engage in anintercultural exchange programme for National Science Week in collaborationwith the Western Cape Education Department from the 30th July to the
4th of August 2012. The aim of the visit is to strengthen collaboration and exchange expertise between Europe and South Africa over mutually beneficial scientific, technological, educational and social topics
related to space science.

The aim of the intercultural exchange programme will be three fold. Firstly to introduce learners and educators to cultural astronomical myths, beyond the Southern Skies. This will be achieved through the use shadow puppetry and many different ways of storytelling. Secondly to allow learners to draw their own conclusions about the differences and similarities of different cultures and to conclude that we are all global citizens of this world.  Finally to workshop educators on the effective use of puppetry, storytelling and creativity in the classroom, in the teaching of space science.
