Orion's Belt

6 August 2012

Twenty educators from the Western Cape Education Department participated in an Intercultrual Educator Workshop on the 4th of August 2012.

The programme was held from 9:30am until 16:00pm. Educators had a skype connection with Zafferana Etnea Primary School in Sicily discussing and sharing ideas on how to teach aspects of astronomy in the classroom and maintaining the interest of the learners.

Educators also had the opportunity to use the mobile planetarium and explore the differences between the northern and southern skies. This exercise was extended when educators made shadow puppets based on the Greek and South African stories about Orion.

Educators left empowered to teach "Earth and Beyond in the next term to their leaners.
